There are no adequate or well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Problems in humans have not been documented. Therefore this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Although it is not known whether permethrin is distributed into human milk, it has been shown to have tumorigenic potential in some animal studies. Therefore consideration should be given to discontinue nursing temporarily or withholding the drug while the mother is nursing.
